Dang's Vietnamese restaurant on Wellingborough Road, Northampton
Situated on Wellingborough Road, only a short distance from Northampton town centre, you will find Dang’s Vietnamese restaurant. Opened in 2007, Dang’s is Northampton’s only Vietnamese restaurant and has been recommended by the Michelin Guide for 3 consecutive years, an achievement that very few restaurants in Northampton have achieved. Owner Hao Dang has enjoyed seeing her restaurant flourish and has received recognition for her hard work by winning the ‘Best Curry Chef’ award at the 2010 Northamptonshire Food awards as well as being voted runner-up in the ‘Booker Chef of the Year’ awards in 2011. Upon your arrival, Hao offers you a warm welcome and leads you to your table. The basement level restaurant is beautifully decorated with family-painted canvases and Vietnamese artefacts and has a cosy, intimate ambience. Drawing on her 30 years catering experience, Hao has created a menu that presents Vietnamese food in an accessible, yet authentic, way. She describes Vietnamese food, to those who have never tasted it, as a cross between Chinese and Thai. The menus have English explanations of each dish and even tell you how to pronounce the Vietnamese names of each dish and for the fussier diners, a small selection of British dishes are available. The food is the real star of the show, with all dishes prepared using fresh ingredients and cooked to order, you have never have tasted food like it. If you can’t decide on a starter, the sharing platter with spicy wings, handmade spring rolls, vegetarian dumplings and seafood fishcakes is the perfect way to sample a little bit of everything. The mains are mouthwatering and highly recommended dishes include Ca Hup, a whole steamed seabass with mild spring onions and a garlic soy sauce; and duck cooked with bamboo shoots and choi sum served with fried spring onions, fresh chillies and coriander in a light soy sauce. Traditional Vietnamese whole meal noodle soups offer punchy flavours and a mix of all the best bits of Vietnamese cuisine. With on-street parking to the front of the restaurant, Dang’s Vietnamese restaurant is the ideal base from which to explore Northampton. With a highly coveted Michelin recommendation under their belt and the passionate and highly skilled Hao Dang at the helm, Dang’s is set to be a successful venue for years to come.

The food was thoroughly excellent as was the service for the main. Again, ignore its take away exterior, the seated area is downstairs.

Again as last time, from the outside it is not the most inviting, however, the restaurant is downstairs. The food and service was excellent.

Where as the food was good and good value, the resturant is lacking something. The menu isn't very comprehensive which is ok a times, but after being told my meal wasnt the chefs recommedation, it became a little boring half way through. Will try it again though.

The food was freshly cooked, light and fresh. Service was excellent. Would definitely eat there again even though the lighting is a bit harsh.

This restaurant is fantastic! The service was excellent and the food is amazing, especially the soups which we both had as a main course. For two courses each and a few bottles of beer for less than £45.00, I can't fault the place! We'll definitely be going back.

Really good food and service - nice easy to understand menu and liked the 'pronounciation' assistance in the menu to try and talk Vietnamese - much to the annoyance of my wife! Ambience not great, but I suppose adds to the character. Will go back!
