Hunters at the Olde Red Lion, Kislingbury, Northamptonshire
Nestled in the village of Kislingbury, just a short drive from Northampton, you will find the delightful, independently run, Olde Red Lion public house and restaurant. Voted ‘Best Pub/Restaurant’ at the Northamptonshire Food and Drink Awards 2010 after placing runner-up for the same award in 2009, this is a venue that is set for great things. Housed within a building that has been run as a village pub since 1829, the Olde Red Lion has plenty of atmosphere and maintains strong connections to its past. Paul, the current landlord, is the third generation of his family to run the pub and when he and Chris purchased it in 2006, the duo refurbished the venue back to its former glory whilst adding a few modern touches. Diners can relax in the traditional bar and lounge area before heading through to the Hunters restaurant. With a red colour scheme complete with red, high-backed leather chairs and red and cream curtains. The dining room is cosy, welcoming and incredibly comfortable. All food is prepared fresh using locally sourced, high quality produce and there are plenty of vegetarian options. The menu changes substantially nearly every week to keep up with the latest seasonal produce and all menus can be tailored should you wish to hire the 26 seat restaurant exclusively. The team at the Olde Red Lion visit all their suppliers personally, going straight to farmers and breeders not only enables them to offer the best of the best, but also guarantees a price not normally associated with such a quality end product. On the menu you can expect to find everything from slow roasted Gloucester Old Spot pork belly served with a bubble and squeak cake and a cider and grain mustard sauce; trio of Salt Marsh lamb served with fondant potato, parsnip puree and a red wine jus; and pan-roasted halibut with chicory and orange and crushed new potatoes and herbs. If you are looking for delicious British cuisine in a restaurant full of character and history then you need look no further than Hunters at the Olde Red Lion. It’s perfect for parties, intimate dinners and lunches and the staff will ensure that your thoughts upon leaving will be ‘when can we go back?’

Very pleasant, welcoming staff. Food was presented well and was full of flavour. Meat was cooked to perfection, we had lamb, slow braised beef and stroganoff - all of which were faultless. Desserts were too appetising to resist and lived up to expectation. Overall, a very pleasant dining experience and would recommend wholeheartedly.
