The Red Lion East Haddon, Northamptonshire
Recently awarded the Bib Gourmand from the Michelin Guide, The Red Lion at East Haddon, Northamptonshire, is a truly exceptional pub restaurant dedicated to serving exquisite food for very reasonable prices. Located just a ten minute drive from Northampton town centre, it is well worth a detour to sample the cuisine that has received such a highly-coveted award.
It came as no surprise to Nick Bonner, owner of The Red Lion, when they received the award as the venue coupled with the passion and enthusiasm that resonates through the staff makes for one extraordinary recipe. The Red Lion is set within a beautiful old building that provides plenty of atmosphere, completed with thatched roof and golden Northamptonshire sand stone. Visitors are welcome to sit in the cosy and welcoming bar and lounge and sample any of the locally brewed feature ales before moving through to the relaxed bistro-style dining area or the main room, which has been transformed in to a beautiful and grand dining room. Complete with a large open fireplace, exposed beams and French doors leading out to the beautiful garden, it provides a wonderful, slightly more formal dining experience with an evocative and relaxed ambience.
Nick has brought an incredibly experienced and dedicated team together and has created a menu the showcases local and free-range meats and produce where ever possible. With dishes such as free-range pork scotch egg with caper and parsley mayonnaise, and cured salmon and honey pickled cucumber salads on offer for starters, your mouth will be watering long before the spectacular mains arrive. With steak, chicken, fish, pork and lamb mains as well as the odd Vegetarian dish, you are truly spoilt for choice as everything is incredibly appetising. Those with a sweet tooth will also welcome the puddings menu which is packed with classics as well as innovative and imaginative dishes.
The Red Lion at East Haddon, Northamptonshire, is a truly spectacular venue that should be sampled by all. With two different dining options; informal and formal, this venue will suit any occasion, large or small. Go on, treat yourself.

Really good night out. Menu is on the more expensive side, but the food is very good. Blue Cheese and Artichoke Risotto starter was excellent, as was the service. Highly recommended.

Probably a 9.5 of 10; great food although the red cabbage side was a little strong on cinnamon and the starters were a tad expensive. However, the braised meat dish melted in the mouth and the crumble was perfect.

I am sorry to say that the waitress came across quite brusque and not too helpful. It would have been nice to have been reminded to order vegetables - so we did not get any. Food very tasty, small portions but beautifully presented.

Having dined at the Red Lion many times in the past .I wasn’t sure about the new décor, trendy, wood floors etc. I felt it had lost some unique cosy country pub/restaurant atmosphere.
However on the plus side both the food and service were very good.

A lovely menu of delicious food. It was nice to see some local produce on the menu and to see a menu that hasn't got pages on pages of choice, you know your food is going to be good when the restaurant specialises in 8-10 dishes for each course. I recommend the duck breast for starter.
