Tamarind restaurant on Wellingborough Road, Northampton

Widely recognised as one of the best Indian restaurants in the East Midlands, recognition that is supported by a win at the East Midlands’ Curry Awards, is Tamarind in Northampton. Situated on Wellingborough Road, with free parking to the rear after 6pm, Tamarind is located just outside of Northampton town centre and has new and loyal customers flocking to the restaurant daily.

Tamarind is not your average Indian restaurant. The waiters are dressed in authentic Indian attire, adding a sense of drama to your dining experience. Raspberry coloured carpets, dark wooden tables and chairs and cream walls keep the restaurant feeling chic, contemporary and luxurious. Owner, Naz, has recently expanded the restaurant, enlarging the first floor dining room to meet the overwhelming demand for the excellent cuisine. When you enter Tamarind, all guests are welcomed warmly by the friendly and professional staff who will continuously look after you from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave.

The cuisine on offer is an authentic blend of Indian and Nepalese cuisines. Tamarind is home to Tipu Rahman who was named Indian Chef of the Year in 2009 after beating off competition from 5,000 global entrants. With dishes on offer such as Tipu’s incredibly popular mango chicken, as well as more recognised dishes such as chicken tikka masala and a beautiful king prawn zafrani; whole prawns brushed with butter and cooked in the tandoor on skewers and garnished with aubergine terrine and crisp okra. Nepalese dishes include Everest butter chicken and, for fish lovers, mardi macha, a mildly-flavoured roasted monkfish roasted in a cream and saffron sauce. Vegetarian diners at Tamarind will also be delighted with the range of unique dishes available.

Many will suspect that an Indian restaurant with Tamarind’s award-winning pedigree will involve a large cost, but the menu is incredibly good value for money and is not to be missed. Tamarind in Northampton is a truly exceptional restaurant that keeps diners coming back time after time due to the excellent service, beautiful venue and exceptional food.

First time at this restaurant and was not disappointed. Just a pity not many people were dining. I suppose people are eating out less on a Monday night

This was our first visit to Tamarind but I can assure you it won't be our last. The ambience, service and meal was just out of this world. My wife and I were with our US visitor who needed some help with the dishes and this was given freely and explained very well. We were given suggestions by staff and shared some friendly banter. We needed the meals cooked with no coriander due to an allergy by our visitor but this was no problem and they made sure all our meals were cooked without it. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to others.

Had eaten at the TAMARIND twice before, and would have to say we were slightly dissaponted with the food both my starter [chicken shaslick] and our main curry [Tamarind house special] were bland in my opinion [not sure if it was the main award winning chef's holiday time as it was over the Easter weekend]. Definatly had better curry at the Tamarind would have to say all else was fine with our evening there and we were offered complimentary drinks or coffee's at the end of our meal which we declined as we had to be somewhere else after our meal there, so have marked the food down for the above reason, however to be fair would go back on another occasion to give them another chance!

By far the best curry I have ever had in the UK, I have never tasted such unique flavours, I can't believe it has taken me so many years to discover this restaurant, I will definitely be going back.

As a frequent visitor to the Tamerind I was not surprised to find excellent service and superb food. Each member of staff goes the extra mile to make the visit a lasting pleasure.

I think the Tamarind Restaurant offers the best indian food in Northampton. We go there quite a lot with family and friends and I always have a good meal and a good evening.
