The Seafood Café, Northampton Town Centre

Venture along St Giles Street in Northampton town centre and you are more than likely to stumble upon The Seafood Café. This restaurant offers residents and visitors alike the freshest fish and seafood direct from Billingsgate Market in London. Its enviable location on St Giles Street makes it ideal for those looking for a fresh fish supper pre-theatre, a healthy lunch or a relaxed dinner with friends.

The Seafood Café was opened by Tim and Emma Hillery in the summer of 2011 and has been met with much acclaim and high recommendations. The duo’s dream was to open a restaurant the offers relaxed dining whilst showcasing the very best of fresh seafood. Fast forward and you have a bright and busy venue with vintage posters adorning the walls that has become a town sensation almost overnight. Diners are enveloped in a relaxed atmosphere and are able to sit back and watch as their meals are created in front of their eyes in the open kitchen.

Whilst the name strongly hints at what is to be found on the menu, The Seafood Café is not strictly pescatarian and offers diners  steak and vegetarian options too. With the seafood and fish being brought in every other day, you can rest assured that no produce is more than a day old ensuring maximum flavour and deliciousness. You will find dishes ranging from whole crab served with new potatoes or seasonal salad to seafood linguine with scallops, mussels, squid and prawns and whole tail scampi to 10oz aged rib eye steak served with a grilled tomato, Portobello mushroom and a choice of potatoes. The Chefs are incredibly highly skilled and even make the bread that is perfect for mopping up any leftover sauce.

The Seafood Café is an incredibly welcome addition to the Northamptonshire restaurant scene. Its classical take on British seafood is refreshing and delicious and, as well as sourcing almost everything from the coffee to the cheese locally, supports sustainable fishing methods. Good for the taste buds, good for the environment.

  1. The food here is absolutely delicious. I can't recommend the moules mariniere highly enough, I had it as a main and it was the perfect portion size and lovely and creamy. My friend had the crab risotto and was really pleased too! I look forwards to visiting again soon and trying something new.
